Cloud ready........

My professional thoughts on being ready for "the cloud,"

• Pay attention to licensing when it comes to cloud vendors.
• Have a strong Service Level Agreement (SLA) with some teeth in it when dealing with a cloud vendor.
• Have a strategy for divorcing your cloud vendor just like you had a plan to move to the cloud.
• Trust but verify.

These are the same kinds of principles that organization & IT professionals have followed for decades when dealing with traditional technology vendors. But with all the hype surrounding cloud computing, people lose perspective. Treat cloud vendors the same way you would every other vendor (technology related or non-technical) and in the end you'll be on solid ground.
