IOC President Jacques Rogge and the rest of the Olympic Committee sought to punish the United States for Iraq and Afghanistan. Plus, they wanted to establish their place in history by awarding the Summer Games to a country in the southern hemisphere (that wasn't Australia). I love everything about Brasil - the country, the people, and most importantly the beautiful game of futbol ("soccer" to us Americans). I am glad that Rio will host the 2016 Summer Games because it is a great city in a great country. I also think that Rogge wants to be remembered for giving the games to Brasil AND punishing the Americans.
