ITEC 6324 Posting for the week of 9/12/05

All,

I've posted Assignment #2 for this class on my personal website in both Power Point and HTML formats.

I found an interesting article on the New York Times website about a 13 nation group that presented a report to the World Bank on Friday, September 9th, 2005 (my birthday - Happy Birthday to me!). What I found interesting about the report is that it urged countries around the World to adopt open information technology standards. The perceived benefit will be that the standards will accelerate economic growth, efficiency, and innovation. The report is a road map for creating national policies for open technology standards.

I am a proponent of open standards for technology, but I feel that each country on this Earth has special characteristics, cultures, and people. I DO NOT want to see to World turn into one monolithic entity where everyone looks the same, acts the same, and does things the exact same way. I love British dry humor, French arrogance, and Japanese stoicism. It would be a shame to see all that go away for the simple reason of "convenience."
